Winter Park Competition Center athletes envision the 2022 Olympics
A dozen athletes linked to the Winter Park Competition Center have been named to the 2021-22 US ski and snowboard team in hopes of qualifying for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
One out of the ordinary athlete is Winter Park resident Birk Irving, who was named to the US freeski team. Irving is ranked No.5 in the World Cup standings for the men’s halfpipe and won bronze medals for the men’s halfpipe and men’s superpipe ski in 2021.
Another former Winter Park Competition Center athlete who won gold in the men’s parallel moguls in the 2021 acrobatic trials at Winter Park Resort is Joel Hedrick, a member of the US Freestyle Mogul Team.
His sister Svea Irving, along with Hunter Carey, Connor Ladd, Dylan Ladd and Lyman Currier, join Irving on the US freeski team.
In addition, athletes Jesse and Casey Andringa were named to the US freestyle team; Storm Klomhaus is part of the US Alpine Team; and Jason Wolle and Stacy Gaskill have joined the US Snowboard Team.
