UGC announces the list of new courses
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a list of new undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) degree courses in various fields, from engineering/technology to medicine and surgery, sports. UGC has announced new courses leading to Bachelor of Fashion Technology, Master of Fashion Technology, Bachelor of Sports Management, Master of Sports Management, Bachelor of Medicine and Sowa-Rigpa Surgery.
According to the UGC, any degree that is not mentioned in the notification and its subsequent modification must be rendered unrecognized.
“Please find attached India Gazette notification dated 14th October 2021 and 3rd March 2022 (English and Hindi) regarding specification of new degrees/duration of
certain diplomas under article 22 of the UGC law of 1956, for your information and the necessary actions. It can be assured that the nomenclature, leading to the award of diplomas, aligns with these diplomas specified by the Commission”, indicates the UGC notification.
Here is the list of new courses approved by the UGC
Medicine and Surgery
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Sowa Rigpa (BSRMS)
Engineering/ Technology / Architecture/ Design
Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech)
Master in Fashion Technology (MFTech)
Master in Fashion Management (MFM)
Bachelor of Urban Design (BUD)
Master in Urban Design (MUD)
Bachelor of Sports Management (BSM)
Masters in Sports Management (MSM)
Bachelor of Sports Science (BSS)
Master in Sports Sciences (MSS).
At the same time, the duration of the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course has been reduced from three to two years, while the duration of the Bachelor of Occupational
(BOT) went from four to four and a half years.
