When it comes to New York food closer Edwin Diaz, a lot of anticipation surrounds his upcoming free agency. Diaz is one of the best closers in baseball, young, probably entering his prime, and a sure thing in an ominous Mets bullpen.

Diaz is so valuable that even with Jacob deGrom’s impending free agency, with his age and dominance, Diaz could become the Mets’ top priority in their own group of free agents.

Latest buzz on Edwin Diaz, Mets seems optimistic:

According to Sports Illustrated’s Michael Marino, the Mets continue to “feel good” about their chances of keeping Diaz, saying there’s “too much to lose if both sides go their own way.”

An encouraging update knowing how important Diaz is to the Mets. Above all, the “too much to lose” aspect. In the New York market at Citi Field, with the fan base and the trumpets, Diaz is beyond selling. The Mets definitely have a notable home-field advantage.

Diaz has an authoritative presence on the mound closing out games. His untouchable slider and 100+ mph heat set the stage for a season of 1.31 ERA and 32 saves.

The hope for the Mets must be that the Diaz market doesn’t spin out of control. Otherwise, the Mets appear willing to pay to retain Diaz. In turn, Diaz also made it known that he would return to the Mets should the contract add up. Now it’s up to the organization and the agents to find a way to make it work.
