Whether you bounce a ball or swing a racket at UNCW, Tama Tea wants to sponsor you.

In conjunction with the new NCAA corporate sponsorship policy for college athletes and their ability to now accept endorsements, Tama Tea is stepping up and providing every UNCW athlete with local small business support.

Founders Wells and Kelly Struble and Rocco Quaranto all graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Wells Struble and Quaranto were members of the track team there.

The founders are promoting Tama tea as a healthy alternative to energy drinks and caffeinated sodas, as it is infused with organic green tea, organic fruit, and other natural flavors.

“We are delighted to make the first public approval for our local varsity athletes,” said Wells Struble.

Tama Tea started in Wilmington as a cafe in 2015; However, during the pandemic, Tama made the difficult decision to shut down its cafes and focus on its canned and bulk tea operations.

A prior effort for the partners after graduation from the Cameron School of Business at UNCW was the founding of The Fuzzy Peach. Having employed many UNCW students over the years at both Fuzzy Peach and Tama Cafe, the founders said they were keen to support local student athletes.

“I think the recent NCAA decision to allow student-athletes to receive compensation and endorsements offers an exciting opportunity,” Struble said. “We know that what we can do at Tama Tea is very small in the big project, but we are doing it and we are excited about it. What we hope is that other community businesses will also mobilize to support UNCW but especially the athletes. “

Rather than selecting one or two key student athletes, Tama Tea has chosen to support each UNCW student athlete who accepts approval with $ 50 in cash, free Tama loot, and a free pack of 12 Tama Sparkling Teas each month. for the next fall semester.

Student athletes should contact the company via DM on their Instagram account @tamateaco to find out more.
