BERLIN–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) – About 17 months after the initial proposal of the European Space Agency (ESA) Commercial Applications Program, Earth observation company LiveEO successfully concluded its Demonstration project, proving the commercial viability of its solution using space technology. ESA’s support to LiveEO throughout the implementation of the project played an important role in bringing its product to maturity, taking its business to the next level and establishing its position as a global leader in infrastructure monitoring. augmented by satellite.
Demonstration projects under ESA’s commercial applications program must show a clear potential to become sustainable in the post-project phase. To be eligible for funding, proposed projects must include user participation and contribution and benefit from the integrated use of one or more space assets.
The LiveEO project SIM (Space-Enabled Full-Stack Solution for Infrastructure Monitoring) has met these requirements: using satellite data, an infrastructure monitoring platform has been established – in close collaboration with network operators in the verticals of the electricity, pipelines and railways in the United States and Europe. The solution developed during the project effectively represents LiveEO’s flagship products on the market today.
Since the launch of the implementation, LiveEO’s monitoring solution has brought value to businesses both inside and outside the project scope. The solution, which encompasses the analysis of vegetation to detect any danger posed by trees to overhead power lines and railways, as well as the identification of ground movements and third-party influences in the vicinity of pipelines, has been deployed to customers from all over the world.
“There is no doubt that LiveEO would not occupy the market leadership position it occupies today without ESA’s business applications program,” says Sven Przywarra, co-founder of LiveEO, “Besides funding, which has allowed us to significantly strengthen our engineering team, we have found access to the ESA network to be invaluable to our business. We are grateful to have had the chance to prove how our product can improve people’s lives, using space technology.
“LiveEO has had an incredible journey throughout the ESA project! From a small start-up to growing an established business with a credible service offering, it is well positioned to enter the market. This is the result of LiveEO’s attitude of technical and commercial innovation, as well as its truly customer-centric approach. It has been a pleasure to support LiveEO, and I look forward to seeing further developments, ”said Davide Coppola, Project Manager at ESA Space Solutions.
LiveEO brings Earth observation to corporate clients starting in the infrastructure industry. LiveEO uses satellite technology to monitor large infrastructure networks globally and enables operators to save on operational expenses by observing the dangers of external threats. Using AI, the startup generates insights from thousands of miles away for management-level decisions as well as information for the field worker through a desktop and mobile app. LiveEO’s goal is to monitor all major infrastructure networks through 2025. The company has 50 employees and is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.
