SUNY Oneonta named Ryan Hooper the school’s new athletic director in a press release on Monday. Hooper will replace Tracey Ranieri, who retired last spring.
“First of all, I would like to thank President Alberto Cardelle and Dr. Bernadette Tiapo, as well as all members of the research committee for this incredible opportunity,” Hooper said in the statement. “I am honored and delighted to be able to lead a department made up of experienced staff and exceptional student-athletes. I am proud to continue our mission of developing exemplary university-athletes while providing them with a wonderful student-athlete experience. I’m thrilled with what’s in store for SUNY Oneonta and can’t wait to get started. “
Hooper arrived at Oneonta from New Paltz, where he was the assistant athletic director. He has also served as New Paltz’s administrative representative at various NCAA Championships.
Prior to New Paltz, Hooper worked at Bard College during the 2009-10 academic year as a Sports Information Assistant, and during that time he also interned for the Skyline Conference.
Hooper graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. A four-year member of the Red Dragons baseball team, Hooper helped Cortland win four SUNYAC Championships and make three appearances in the NCAA Division III College World Series. He won the All-SUNYAC Second Team and All-Region Third Team accolades in 2006 and was named team captain for the 2008 season.
Hooper also graduated from Cortland with a Masters in Sports Management in May 2018.
