Shockers send 13 athletes to NCAA West prelims

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Wichita State track and field team has qualified 13 athletes for the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the top 48 western athletes from each event will compete for a trip to Eugene. , Oregon.

The top 12 athletes from each event and the top 12 relay teams will face the top 12 from the Eastern Preliminaries June 8-11 at Hayward Field. Jumpers and horizontal throwers will only have three attempts to place in the top 12, as there is no final at this competition.

2x All American Michael Bryan is looking to qualify for its second NCAA Outdoor Championships and second NCAA Championship meeting this year after earning a berth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March in Birmingham, Alabama.

This will be the first trip to the NCAA West Preliminaries for seven of the 13 Shockers, with two being actual freshmen (Sidney Johnson and Brianna Utecht.)
