Ohio State today named its Athletes of the Year for Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. Most people should recognize the male athlete.
The State of Ohio named its Male and Female Athletes of the Year. It is a great reward for those who receive this honor. It is a sign of their quality in a given season. Two other athletes are now the new members of this exclusive club.
The Male Athlete of the Year for the State of Ohio was Justin Fields. This is no surprise to anyone who follows the Ohio State football team. Fields was amazing not only last season but also in his first season as Buckeye. He was a big reason the Buckeyes played in the national title a year ago.
Fields was amazing last year. He threw 22 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions during a shortened football season in Ohio State. He threw for 2,100 yards and added 383 rushing with 5 touchdowns with his feet as well. In other words, he was fantastic.
The Female Athlete of the Year may be a little less well known, but her accomplishments were no less impressive. That athlete is Adelaide Aquilla, who was a shot putter for the Buckeyes. She won a national title in the indoor shot put and is now preparing for the Olympic trials.
Aquilla also holds an academic record for the indoor shot put, which she did in her run at the national championships. She’s as impressive as they come and is now the seventh female track athlete to be nominated for female athlete of the year.
Fields is the 12th football player to be named male athlete of the year. In fact, he is the third footballer in a row to receive the honor after Chase Young and Dwayne Haskins won it respectively for the past two years.
Congratulations to both athletes on their fabulous seasons!
