Falcons host Bears free agent wide receiver as Ryan Pace digs his talons in front office
The Falcons could be the new Southern Bears because Atlanta has shown interest or signed just about every Chicago free agent in the market. The organization clearly trusts the people inside the building. When Arthur Smith rounded out his team last spring, the first head coach hired David Ragone and Charles London, who resulted in several free agent signings due to their connections with Chicago. The most notable being Cordarelle Pattersonwho had a career year in 2021.
Then, this offseason, Terry Fontenot added Ryan Pace, the former Bears general manager, to the front office. It seems Pace has Fontenot’s ear because the Falcons signed two free agents who played for the Bears last season – Teez Tabor and Elijah Wilkerson. Then turned around and signed running back Damien Williams, who also spent 2021 in Chicago. But that’s not all.
Atlanta welcomed offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, who has spent the past two seasons in Chicago, last week. Now the Falcons welcome another free agent from the Bears at wide receiver Damiere Byrd.
The Falcons hosted WR Damiere Byrd on a free agent visit. He also recently visited the Raiders. The quick passer last year with the Bears.

Byrd proved to be a reliable option for the Bars as a depth receiver, but nothing more. On 38 targets, Byrd had 26 receptions for 329 yards and a touchdown.
He had a few glimpses last year, including the game-winning two-point conversion against the Seahawks. Byrd didn’t contribute too much in the third phase of the game in Chicago, and as a deep piece you need to be able to make a difference on special teams.
