MINNEAPOLIS Laura Bagwell Katalinich has been named the third All-American® Academic Team, the Directors of University Sports Information of America (CoSIDA) announced on Friday.

Recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on court and in the classroom, a student-athlete must be a regular or significant reserve with at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a scale of 4.0 ) at their current establishment in to be nominated. Due to the variety of matches played between conferences and varsity athletics divisions this year, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® competition for basketball was based on career statistics for the 2020-2021 academic year.

A native of Minneapolis who spent the previous three years at Cornell, Bagwell Katalinich played 18 games with two starts in his first season in the Maroon and Gold in 2020-21. She averages 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in offensive rebounds per game (1.6). She has hit double the numbers on four occasions, including a notable performance of 10 points and a season-high nine rebounds against Nebraska in the Big Ten tournament, 12 points and five tables against Penn State on Jan. 10, a record high. of the season 16 points and five rebounds. in Wisconsin on Jan. 3 and 10 points with six rebounds on Dec. 23 against a team from Indiana that reached elite eight.

Bagwell Katalinich, who was one of two Big Ten student-athletes to be honored with Ali Patberg, Indiana second team, received his undergraduate degree from Cornell in communications and is working towards a master’s degree in sports management. .

Now a three-time All-District Academic Laureate in her career, including two at Cornell, Bagwell Katalinich becomes the fourth Gopher to be named Academic All-American®. She joins two recipients Carlie Wagner (2017-18) and April Calhoun (2005-06), as well as the current head coach of Minnesota Lindsay Whalen (2003).

In mid-April, Bagwell Katalinich announced that she would return for an additional season of competition with the Golden Gophers.
