Agent confirms Tottenham’s interest in Franck Kessie

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The 24-year-old has a contract with the Italian club until 2022, and Milan are under pressure to cash it in this summer.

They can’t afford to lose the Ivorian on a free transfer next year, and the player’s agent has revealed the Premier League club are keen to sign their client.

The player’s agent told TMW (translated by Semper Inter): “Today, having a contract expiring in 2022 with an important player, one of the strongest in Milan, is a danger. Here is a basic club error.

“Now [Kessie] is the one who holds the knife by the handle and can decide what is best for him rather than the club.

“I know that in addition to Inter there are two Premier League teams that are interested in him, including Tottenham.”

SL View: It would be a surprising decision by Spurs

Tottenham already have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele in central midfielder roles, and welcoming Kessie to the starting lineup could be tricky next season.

The Milan midfielder is unlikely to join a club where he will not be a regular holder.

While he could play in a three-way midfielder alongside Hojbjerg and Ndombele, it would leave Spurs with a defensive-minded midfielder lacking in creativity and goals.

Londoners have yet to name a long-term successor for Jose Mourinho, and it would be fair to assume that any transfer would have to wait until the new manager arrives.

They have had talks with several managers across Europe in recent weeks but have not found agreement with any of their goals.

Here’s what Spurs fans had to say about the connection to the player.
